Survivor Stories

Charlie

Georgia

Being incarcerated as a level 2, mental health, bisexual offender is difficult, as I have been marked as a target for the duration of my detention. It’s been very hard for me to have enough courage to report being a victim of sexual assault, especially because I am an African-American male reporting a white female sergeant.

Since reporting the sergeant, I have been subjected to punitive segregation and have been labeled a “snitch” by her and her colleagues. I’ve experienced retaliation, harassment, and extreme vengeance.

But I won’t give up. I have a federal complaint pending. I believe that the police, law enforcement officials, and corrections officers should all be held to the same standards, laws, and policies that they are hired and trained to hold us to. My fight for justice is not just for myself, but for every other victim that’s too scared to speak up.
