Shepherd’s Fold operates five Christian residential re-entry facilities in Birmingham that provide food, shelter, and counseling to formerly incarcerated men. As part of the program, Shepherd’s Fold offers support groups for men who were sexually abused while in prison. Meetings are conducted weekly at a local church and are led by qualified counselors. At our free-standing SANE (Sexual Assault Nurse Examiner) facility, we are able to collect forensic evidence and provide a compassionate link between the survivor and law enforcement. The Gay, Lesbian, Bisexual and Transgender National Hotline provides telephone and email peer-counseling, as well as information and local resources for cities and towns across the United States. Volunteer peer counselors share information about coming-out issues, relationship concerns, HIV/AIDS anxiety, safer-sex practices, and more. The Alabama Coalition Against Rape (ACAR) is a statewide nonprofit organization working to prevent sexual violence in the State of Alabama. At the heart of ACAR’s success is the network of rape crisis centers that provide services to survivors of rape and sexual assault. Staff or volunteers are available 24 hours a day to offer
The Family Guidance Center of Alabama (FGC) provides services throughout Alabama in the following cities: Birmingham, Montgomery, Troy, Hayneville, and Dothan. FGC works with survivors of sexual violence through individual or group counseling, depending on the needs that exist within each community. The staff is made up of licensed and trained counselors and social workers.
