Advocates to End Domestic Violence is committed to the elimination of sexual violence in the Carson City area. Advocates to End Domestic Violence acts as an advocate for survivors of sexual violence by offering a wide variety of services during the trying times that follow a sexual assault.

Aid for AIDS of Nevada (AFAN) provides support and advocacy for adults and children living with and affected by HIV/AIDS in southern Nevada.

Service area: Central and southern Nevada, including the counties of Clark, Lincoln, Mohave, and Nye.
Work with: All survivors or sexual abuse; children and adults living with and affected by HIV/AIDS. Contact AFAN for more information about eligibility requirements for services funded by Ryan White Part A, B and HOPWA.
Services for survivors during incarceration include: Information and support via phone or by mail. Jail and prison inmates can contact AFAN during discharge for information on services.
Services for survivors after release include: Case management; education, outreach, and prevention services; assistance with obtaining medical care, housing, transportation, medication, health insurance, and enrollment in the AIDS Drug Assistance Program (ADAP); a food program, including food vouchers, nutritional supplements, and nutritional counseling; emergency financial assistance, including with utility payments; assistance with insurance premiums, co-pay, and deductibles for individuals with insurance, including Medicare Part D participants; support groups; information; and referrals.

The Family Support Council of Douglas County is a non-profit, community-based organization. The Victim Services program provides a range of services for individuals and families in Douglas County including survivors of sexual assault.

The Nevada Coalition Against Sexual Violence (NCASV) works to achieve statewide comprehensive and uniform sexual assault services.

Additional Information: NCASV does not provide crisis intervention or ongoing support services such as counseling, but is able to assist survivors and their loved ones to locate appropriate services in their geographic area.

Northern Nevada HIV Outpatient Program, Education, and Services (HOPES) is a regional, nonprofit organization that provides outpatient medical care, pharmacy services, social services, and support services for HIV-positive individuals in Northern Nevada.

Service area: Nevada state prisons and all counties in Northern Nevada, except Clark, Nye, Esmeralda, and Lincoln
Work with: All people infected with and affected by HIV/AIDS
Services for survivors during incarceration include: HIV specialty care; medication; and case management for HIV+ people in Nevada state prisons.
Services for survivors after release include: Free, confidential HIV testing and counseling; crisis intervention; case management; mental health and substance abuse counseling; the Housing Opportunities for Persons With AIDS (HOPWA) program, which includes emergency utility assistance, short-term housing, and emergency housing placements; outpatient primary medical care; dental and oral health care referrals; pharmacy services; nutritional counseling; assistance with health insurance premiums; specialized health services for women; benefit eligibility information and assistance, such as with Social Security benefits or Back-to-Work programs; support groups; and a Drop-In Center.
Services for loved ones include: Free, confidential HIV testing and counseling.
Fees: Free for prisoners. A sliding scale is used for community members, and no one is turned away due to a lack of funds.

The Rape Crisis Center is a non-profit organization committed to providing crisis intervention, advocacy, support, and education to survivors of sexual violence.

Services for survivors during incarceration include: Crisis intervention via the 24-hour hotline or by mail; advocacy and accompaniment throughout the medical, legal, and court processes; support groups and outreach for adult female survivors at the Nevada State Women’s Prison, the Las Vegas City Jail, and for male and female detainees at the Clark County Detention Center beginning the summer of 2009; information; and referrals.
Services for survivors after release include: Confidential crisis intervention via the 24-hour hotline; advocacy; referrals to emergency resources; accompaniment throughout the medical, legal, and court processes; and a weekly support group for survivors of sexual assault.
Services for loved ones include: Crisis intervention; support; information; and referrals.

The Inspector General of the Nevada Department of Corrections is authorized to investigate any matter arising from the Department or any person employed, incarcerated, or present in an institution or facility. Inmates who have been sexually assaulted in a Nevada DOC facility can contact the Inspector General by writing to the address above to report the assault and any concerns regarding the handling of investigations into such abuse. JDI has directly contacted each organization listed in the Resource Guide in hopes of pointing survivors toward those currently accepting new clients. However, the inclusion of any group or individual in the Resource Guide does not necessarily constitute an endorsement or recommendation by JDI, nor can JDI guarantee the availability of the services described here.

The State Bar of Nevada offers a free, non-profit, Lawyer Referral and Information Service (LRIS) for the community. Each year, LRIS staff handles more than 35,000 calls from Nevada residents, assisting with various legal situations and providing referrals. When you call the LRIS, an assistant will ask you a series of questions to determine how they can best help you. If it is determined you do need legal assistance, you will be given the name and telephone number of an attorney who accepts cases in the area of law which covers your issue. A confirmation of the referral will be mailed to both you and the attorney. If the attorney is not able to assist you, you may call the LRIS for additional referrals.

All LRIS attorneys are private attorneys and will arrange their fee with you. If you cannot afford to pay an attorney’s regular fees, LRIS will either attempt to pre-qualify you for a reduced fee attorney or refer you to another consumer agency. Reduced fee attorneys may charge no more than $25 for the initial consultation, and they agree to charge no more than $75 per hour thereafter. There is no charge for using LRIS. It is a free, non-profit, public service.
