Beyond the Basics: Troubleshooting Through Scenarios

For many advocates, the prospect of working in detention facilities can be cause for concern. Some advocates fear that providing services inside a prison or jail could put them in harm’s way. Another common worry is that the skills for helping survivors in the community are not transferable to a corrections setting.

“Beyond the Basics: Troubleshooting Through Scenarios” is designed to address some of these concerns. JDI staff walk advocates through four challenging scenarios for those providing services to survivors in detention. The scenarios include providing hospital accompaniment for a prisoner rape survivor, holding a session inside a jail, answering a hotline call, and answering survivor letters.
