This webinar will increase advocates’ awareness of the high rates of prior trauma among incarcerated men and boys of color, and the barriers they face in accessing culturally sensitive support services. Guest presenters include a victim advocate who has provided group and individual counseling for hundreds of incarcerated male survivors of color. The webinar will explore how the experiences and needs of incarcerated male survivors of color differ due to their identity and custody status. People attending the webinar will also develop skills to support and advocate for the safety of these survivors using the Prison Rape Elimination Act standards as a tool. This is the first in a six-part series of webinars on providing services for especially vulnerable and underserved incarcerated populations, including LGBT survivors, Deaf and hard of hearing survivors, survivors with disabilities, survivors of sexual abuse perpetrated by women, and survivors with mental illness.
